Are all composite doors fundamentally the same?
No, there are differences between standard composite doors and Solid Core doors.
In general, standard composite doors are around 44mm in depth. They are foam filled, lightweight and have GRP colour skins.
Solid Core composite doors are thicker in depth, typically 48mm, and made from laminated layers of timber. This causes them to be more sturdy and durable than the foam filled standard composite doors. With our Solid Core range, you are able to achieve the exact colour match with your door frame due to using UPVC skins.
Please note there is a price difference between the two types. We can help you select a door that fits in with your requirements and your budget.
Can I have a different colour on the inside to the outside?
Typically, yes! For most doors you will be able to select a different colour for the inside and outside. Opt for a neutral white on the inside and a vibrant red on the outside, or vice versa! A County advisor will be able to check if your favourite colours are possible.
MORE COMMON QUESTIONS
Find the answers to a few of our most frequently asked questions here. County’s team of advisors are ready to help you navigate your many door options.
How many keys do you get?
Per new door, you’ll receive three keys as standard. If you need more keys – just ask. You can request extra keys when you place your order or get them made later on.
Will I be able to use the same for both doors? (Suited)
Yes, that won’t be a problem. When you order your door, let your County advisor know you would like your keys to be suited, so they will work for both.
What does Secured by Design mean?
Secured by Design is the name of the certified police security initiative that works to improve the security of buildings and their direct surroundings to deliver safe places for the community to live.
With a product-based accreditation scheme, the Police Preferred Specification, the initiative creates a full standard for all security products, with the goal of deterring and reducing crime. Security products include domestic windows, doors and their hinges and locks.
Numerous County products have been tested to meet the standards of the scheme because our sister manufacturing company, Conservatory Outlet, is a registered member of SBD. Don’t hesitate to ask for further details.
What does a 3-star rated door barrel mean?
A 3-star rated barrel is the highest possible rating, so it has been fully tested against potential break-ins. County door cylinders feature our extraordinary snap-secure technology with lockdown mode to stop the barrel from being compromised.
Can French doors fold back completely?
Order our French doors with an egress hinge and you will be able to fold back your doors fully, providing you with a full view of the outdoors.
Should I choose sliding patio or bi-folding doors?
Either of our sliding patio doors or bi-folding doors make a great addition to a home with a large opening, and for homeowners who want to open their room to the garden or patio. For an expansive opening, our bi-folding doors fold back completely. Made from aluminium, our sliding patio doors have slimmer frames so they provide a more expansive view when closed. You can’t go wrong with either door, but we can help advise you which would work best for you and your home.

Finance companies can turn down people for lots of reasons, for example if you’ve moved several times over the past few years. In these circumstances, we always do our best to help and sometimes it’s worth trying another provider, especially if they know you.
