4 Sales Tactics That A Dishonest Window Salesperson May Try On You

It can be difficult knowing who to trust when you are buying new windows and doors for your home, especially if you have never done so before. 

Doing a bit of homework is vital. So finding out if your local window company has any industry accreditations, viewing some of their previous work, reading genuine testimonials, finding out just how knowledgeable their team are etc.

You can very quickly tell when a salesperson isn’t working in your interests when they use these sort of sales tactics:

Price conditioning

The majority of window and door buyers don’t know how much they’re going to cost prior to getting some quotes. 

This is where a salesperson may attempt ‘price conditioning’, where they give you a quote and do everything to convince you that this price is the best you will get anywhere, when that’s unlikely to be true. 

Fake discounts

We’ve mentioned getting quotes, and you need to get at least three of them, ideally, to give you an indicator of price. 

Some salespeople won’t want you to go and get other quotes, and will invent a discount on the spot, telling you that it’s only available at that point, to try and force you to buy so that you don’t miss out on it. 

The fake discount will be nothing to shout about, but you may not realise that.

Big price drop

As a real shock tactic, a salesperson could quote you a ridiculously high price just to see what you say and how you react. 

They will be hoping to cause raised eyebrows so that when they then vastly reduce the quote, you will be fooled into thinking you’re getting a massive discount. 

Overcharging

“How much is it you’re looking to pay for your new windows and doors?”.

This is a question you may get asked, and if you give them a figure, which may be well above what you should be paying, they will use it to quote you an inflated price that’s around the figure you’ve mentioned.
