The Story Behind Heritage Windows

If you’ve been looking around for replacement windows in recent times, just like you might be doing now on the County website, you may have stumbled across heritage windows.

Windows with the ‘heritage’ tag are designs that are built to look like traditional timber windows, sharing similar styling and proportions, and often crafted by employing traditional techniques.

Window renovations at listed buildings and homes in conservation areas have to be done delicately and because of the historical accuracy of heritage windows, they are chosen a lot as a window replacement for late 19th and early 20th century homes.

Planners look favourably on their use as they identify how good they are for retaining the original personality of period properties.

Timeless designs with modern assets

Heritage windows have just as much charm as genuine timber windows and their finishes have a wood-effect for good measure, so they’re the perfect replacement for them.

They have far more robustness to them than wooden windows too, so they won’t lose their structural integrity, which leads to draughts forming inside homes and energy bills getting more expensive by the month.

It’s being constructed by UPVC or aluminium that gives them their resilience and the addition of double or triple glazing that makes them highly energy efficient in comparison.

Different heritage styles

We sell two window styles at County that encompass everything that a modern heritage window should have – flush sash windows and cottage windows.

The flush sash window has the title of ‘flush’ because it has window sashes that are completely flush with the external face of the window when closed, and our cottage window has Georgian bar detailing to help it establish a cottage-like aesthetic.

These Georgian bars create a grid formation on the window (you can request a vertical or horizontal pattern) and give the impression that it is separated into small sections of glass.

Increasingly popular with window buyers

Heritage windows are very sought after at the moment and we’ve had the privilege of adding them to lots of homes across the Sussex and Kent areas.

Many of these properties have been old country cottages or have listed status, but just as many of them have been very modern, with their occupants keen to have the most believable imitations of flush sash windows and cottage windows that you can find.

There are three venues you can travel to if you want to view our heritage windows and decide for yourself if they are as faithful to old timber windows as they should be.
